CAIRNTERRIER HISTORY

No one knows for sure exactly where the cairn terrier
originated or when this momentous event occurd.
According to popular belief the cairn terrier
is the oldest of the short-legged terriers and the foundation for other breeds.
What is know is that for centuries a hardy,
short-legged dog was bred by gamekeepers and crofters
in the northen reaches of scotland.
This little dog wass of no distinct breed.
They were small, hard-working dogs who earned their
living by hunting everything from rats to badgers.
The first entries of dogs pressumed to be cairn terriers
appered in the june 1907 issu of kennel Gazette.
In 1910 the kennel club moved registration from
"pricked-eared skyterrier"to "any other breed or variety"
and 35 dogs were registered.
1912 The kennelk club atarted awaarding challange certificates
and gave the cairn terrier a separate register.
Among the first to work for official recognition
was Mrs. Alastair Campbell.
